1971

Within the timespan of over less than a fortnight (13 days) Pakistan had been terribly hitted by Indian Army , Navy , Airforce. But due to American intervention India had to wind-up the war with an impact. Here it is how India made Pakistan surrender in that crisis situation.

1. The Bold Move

  • Till 14/12/1971 the war was only limited upto the respective borders, but on that India took a bold step and attacked on the                "Pakistani Governor's house in Lahore". As result Pakistan's courage was torn apart.
  • On 15/12/1971 Sam Manekshaw wrote to Pakistani Maj.General-A.K.Niyazi :" There will be ceasefire from our side only when your army surrenders."
  • The Commander in Chief of the Eastern frontier Jagjit Singh Arora who operated from Kolkata, ordered Maj.Gen.Jacob for the preparations regarding the surrender.
  • While Mr.Jacob meet with Mr.Niyazi, Niyazi sounded reluctant for signing the,.  "Instrument of Surrender", Jacob gave him a 30 min. ultimatum. On hearing the ultimatum A.K.NIYAZI collapsed and signed the instrument without any resistance.

2. (16/12/1971) The Surrender

  • The instrument of surrender was officially signed by A.K.Niyazi & Jagjit Singh Arora @16.30 hrs. at the Ramna Racecourse of Dhakka.
  • This 4 hours of surrender, included taking over the 90,000 prisoners of war and there weapon.

Finally PM Indira Gandhi came up with a good news in the parliament, she said," Dhaka is now a free capital of a free nation. We hail the people of Bangladesh in the hour of triumph."

A political turn over then took place in Pakistan as an aftermath of the war, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto war appointment as the new President of Pakistan.

3. The Shimla Summit

  • On 2nd July 1972 a Indo-Pak summit was held at Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, between PM.Indira Gandhi & Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
  • Treaty provided Pakistan's assurance for the sovereignty of Bangladesh,in exchange of the 90,000 Pakistani Prisoners of War.
  • The treaty also gave back 13,000 sq.km land that Indian army seized during the war.

Conclusion:

  • India emerged victorious in the 1971 war, therefore India had a free licence to put whatever demand infront of Pakistan while the Shimla Summit.
  • But don't know why Indira Gandhi didn't!!!!!
  • Instead we gave many gifts to Pakistan under the label of.    "WORLD PEACE".

  • Incase if Pakistan had won the war would they show same mercy on India??????

  • Plz write ur views for my question 🙏🙏🙏

  1. If Pakistan would have won the war they would have not shown the same mercy.
Indian POWS of 1965 were last seen alive in 1988. Also in 2006 TIMES OF INDIA wrote about alive POWs but no action was taken on it.
