Right when the world was under tremendous fear due to the Cuban Missile Crisis, China made a bold move to score a point in International Politics by attacking Arunachal Pradesh.
The decade of 50's is signified for brotherhood relations between India &China. But at the end of the decade,the conditions worsened and finally it all ended with the war.
This blog is about the actual 1962 war.

1. Chinese settlement Plan

  • By the year 1960,the relation of brotherhood between both nations sequentially worsened.
  • In 1960,Zhou Enlai arrived in India for settlement.
  • According to Enlai's demands,China would leave there claim on Aksai Chin if India left its claim on Arunachal Pradesh.

2. Indian Forward Policy

  • In 1960,Nehru came upon with order of Forward Policy,against China.
  • India started allocation of the frontier post near the McMohan Line & increased patroling.

Finally on 20th October 1962,China called an attack in Indian forward posts.

3. War Begins
  • Chinese troops firstly attacked on the Rajput regiment who had hold their control on the west of Namka Chu River.
  • Chin continued fierce attack on India,and India continued loosing the territories.
  • Untill 24th October,Chin came 60 kms inside the Indian border i.e upto Tejpur(Assam).

4. Chinese negotiations

  • On 24th October,Chin stopped the attack,and began negotiating.
  • Enlai suggested Indian troop to take there position as per 8th October 1962,in return China would go behind 20 kms of 60kms that they had captured.
  • On 14th November,Nehru rejected the proposal. This buffer period was used by Chin for further preperations.

On 14th November 1962
(Nehru's Birthday)Chin resumed the war.

5. Rezang La's battle
  • The Rezang La pass is situated  near Chusul 16000 feets above sea level.
  • On 18th November,114 soldiers if 13th Kumaon Regiment led by Maj.Shaitan Singh Bhati fought untill there last breath against 1000 Chinese soldiers.
  • 109 of them were killed,Maj.Shaitan Singh's body was found frozen under the ice 2 years later.

6. Ceasefire

  • China had offered support to USSR during Cuban Missile Crisis,as a result now USA offered open help to India against China.
  • Noting the American intervention,on 19th November 1962 China declared unilateral ceasefire and took back there troops as per 7th December 1959.

Officially the war was ended.

Conclusion
The Credulousness of brotherhood of India, cost the nation a terrific war. Indian troops were absolutely not ready with strategies,they just fought against whatever came upon them.
